This new construction project is an award-winning optometry office for two optometrists and a three-person support staff. Medical office projects are both a reflection of their health professional owner's vision for their own business, as well as the context for delivering fairly regulated care to their patients. As architects working with an optometrist with experience working in several different offices, we had an opportunity to use their experience to create a health care environment that was both functional and a reflection of the owner's interests. From the front desk experience through pre-test and visual field, onto the exam room, and even frame sales, the project is as distinct as the owner. Responding to the cold climate of Belfast, Maine, the project boasts a number of energy efficiency features, including radiant heating, a well-insulated and tight envelope, energy recovery, and LED lighting.
South-facing triple-paned glass brings in natural light to the frame display area while limiting summer heat gain and winter cold. The project uses durable and easy-to-maintain finishes to create a light-filled and distinctive interior. Exam room casework is laboratory grade steel, making it easy to keep clean. The reception desk and frame display areas are custom designed to provide a consistent look in materials.
The reception desk is HIPAA compliant, with ergonomic work stations. We provided an employee break room and a staff bathroom with shower for staff who ride their bike to work.
