With picture-perfect views of Mt. Katahdin, Camp Natarswi is the ultimate summer camp destination.
When GSME originally built the infirmary, they got half way through construction when their funding ran out. The scouts made due with the undersized facility, but finishing the building was always a goal.
One benefit of the cancellation of summer camp in 2020 was that it gave us an opportunity to help GSME reach that goal. Our designs to complete the building and renovate the existing half were completed in the winter prior to the pandemic. Rather than being forced to attempt to work on the project in the shoulder seasons immediately prior to and after the camping season, we were able to have the entire project constructed at once. The new facility features a director’s office and bedroom, a new nurse’s room and isolation room, as well as two new sleeping rooms and three new bathrooms.
This was a small project in a remote area of Maine. We knew procuring typical commercial products would be difficult. We there specified construction products we knew would be locally available.
